Shubman Gill to be rested for 4th T20I due to foot injury

Shubman Gill is unlikely to play in the fourth Twenty20 International against South Africa on Wednesday (December 17) night in Lucknow due to a foot injury. It's learnt that Gill suffered the injury during a nets session on Tuesday.

Gill's absence may give an opportunity to Sanju Samson to open the innings. Samson's last T20I appearance was in October this year - against Australia in Melbourne.

Gill, the designated vice-captain of the side and the full-time skipper in the ODI and Test formats, has not been good nick in the series. He has had scores of 4 and 0 in the first two games before scoring a run-a-ball 28 in the third. The team is known to trust his abilities and the foot injury comes at a wrong time.

He also suffered an untimely neck injury which prevented his participation in previous Test and ODI series. His absence was felt in both formats, particularly in the Test series which India lost 0-2. It is to be seen what skipper Suryakumar Yadav says about the injury status at the toss which, the BCCI said, has been delayed due to fog in Lucknow.
